The story of Vil begins in a charmingly run-down Reykjavík backyard in October 2015.
After ten days of musical experiments, this is the place where Maria Bay Bechmann and Julius Rothlaender hold an intimate headphone concert to present their first songs: four crackling pieces, mellow and moony. Soon there is the shy decision to start a band, and new songs just keep on coming, seeming to write themselves during encounters in Marias home in Denmark, Julius’ little studio in Iceland, or a visit to Berlin. Many miles and concerts follow, in Copenhagen, Berlin and Reykjavík; there are support tours for Einar Stray Orchestra and Hannah Epperson, as well as appearances at Fusion Festival, Iceland Airwaves and Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. After all that Vil released their first album „Mens vi falder stille“ in March 2017.
Since then Vil concentrate on creating new tracks in the danish solitude and played some handpicked shows per year. The new EP "Hvis det du (ikke) siger aldrig bliver sagt igen“ was written in late summer 2017 and since finishing Vil work on collaborations with different artists to release every song of the EP in its own style.
Adriana Berroterán made a stunning video fort he first single „Uden“ – beautiful pictures which melt perfectly with the music. Collaborations with Klāvs Liepiņš (Dance / Video) and Shuyi Yi (Video) for the two other songs will follow.
Special-K is an Icelandic avant-garde musician and artist. Her debut „I Thought I’d Be More Famous by Now“ (out October 19th) is a visual EP, a sort of "No budget Lemonade". She combines different elements like pop culture, fashion, poetry and whimsical music to create a universe of her own. A Universe made out of post-internet aesthetics, cheekily honest lyrics and a mellow, quirky soundscape. The music is a mixture of rawness and sophistication, combining complex synth arrangements with playful recorder flute solos etc. When playing live she has the videos playing on a big screen behind her with karaoke lyrics. Unfulfilled dreams of fame and glory, impostor syndrome and love and boredom in the age of tinder are amongst her themes. Her lyrics and style are at the same time a 100% sincere and 100% ironic.
